My favourite sandwich

Let’s be honest here for a minute, my head hasn’t been in the best of places for the last few weeks. Work is too stressful and is getting me down, we have too much to do at home, I’m finding it really hard to be so far away from my family and we’re not getting enough sleep.

But to bring some positive vibes back into this blog, I will dedicate the next few posts to some of my favourite things. I decided to start with my favourite sandwich. Why? I have absolutely no idea.

I personally love a good sandwich, they are so versatile. In Holland we have a huge variety of sweet sandwich toppings like hagelslag (chocolate sprinkles), gestampte muisjes (a bit like aniseed flavoured icing sugar type stuff), vlokken (slighty bigger chocolate sprinkles) and appelstroop (a thick concentration of apple juice). All are lovely, but of the sweet sandwiches, hagelslag is definitely best.

When it comes to hot sandwiches I do like a cheese toastie, or a lovely uitsmijter ham en kaas (2 slices of bread with a slice of ham, cheese and a fried egg, runny yolk of course!) Yummy scrummy!

And what about a leftover potato sandwich….yes please! Whether they are cooked, fried or mashed, put them on a sandwich with some salt, pepper and mayo and enjoy! Lovely.

But my all time favourite, without a doubt, is cheese, tomato and mayonnaise. Simple, I know, but I love it!

What is your favourite sandwich?

  1. The sweet sandwiches are not at all like anything I am familiar with.

    1. I’m not surprised, we do have some weird sweet sandwiches in Holland. If you can get your hands on hagelslag you should try it, you’ll love it!

      1. I’ll keep that in mind.

  2. Yours sound yummy….mine I guess would be crispy bacon, tomato and mayo…Diane

  3. My all time favourite is hot roast chicken, crispy bacon, mustard mayo and rocket salad, preferably between two large doorsteps of fresh white bread (I’m drooling already by the way!). I also like a simple ham and cheese toastie… And egg and cress is pretty good too… There are so many choices these days it’s hard to pick just one favourite. Although I can’t say I’m a fan of sweet sandwiches, just give me a snickers or something instead!

    1. That sounds lovely Ragger, makes me hunrgy 🙂

  4. Sweet sandwiches…..?! Right, I’m moving. They sound fantastic!

  5. A couple of slices of toast and a ripe avocado smooshed in between, seasoned with a bit of steak spice.

    1. Yum! I love avocado on toast! Like the idea of steak spice, good plan!
